CHICAGO -- Gordon Beckham was struggling and the Chicago White Sox are banged up. Darren McFadden Jersey . That didnt stop them from completing a sweep of the rival Chicago Cubs. Beckhams tiebreaking homer in the eighth inning helped the White Sox beat the rival Cubs 5-1 on Tuesday night. Beckham was 1 for 6 in the White Soxs 3-1, 12-inning win Monday over the Cubs, but he matched a career high with four hits Tuesday. The fourth one, on a 1-2 pitch with two outs from Neil Ramirez (0-1), gave Beckham his first homer of the season and the White Sox the lead, one they held to sweep the two-game series at Wrigley Field before the teams start a two-game set Wednesday across town at U.S. Cellular Field. Entering Tuesday, Beckham was 3 for his last 17 and hitting just .167 on the season. But he took extended batting practice earlier in the day, and that paid off later. "It was great. I mean great night, completely blessed to have it and definitely comes at a good time," Beckham said. "Good win." The sweep was made more impressive by what the White Sox have been battling. Their best pitcher, starting third baseman, centre fielder and right fielder are all injured, and Adam Dunn was a late scratch and replaced in the lineup by Moises Sierra. Sierra had four hits, and the White Sox had their third straight win. "Theyre scrapping and finding a way to do it. Especially with all the injuries of guys going down you just kind of have to find your way sometimes and scratch and claw and take what you can get," White Sox manager Robin Ventura said. "Theyve been doing that, which is good." Theyve also been pitching well against the Cubs, who lost their third straight. Zach Putnam (1-0) had an 18.90 ERA in five games for the Cubs last season but threw two scoreless innings for the White Sox, who have won consecutive games against the North Siders for the first time since taking three in a row in 2012. The White Soxs starter had another good night but wasnt the beneficiary of Beckhams home run and the three ninth-inning insurance runs -- capped by pinch-hitter Jordan Danks two-run double off Pedro Strop -- that also gave the White Sox their third straight win after a four-game skid. Hector Noesi gave the White Sox their second straight strong start against their crosstown rivals. One day after Jose Quintana took a no-hitter into the sixth, Noesi went five innings and allowed one run while striking out six. "Not very good (the past two nights)," Cubs manager Rick Renteria said. It was also a departure from Noesis first start of the season, when he lasted just 3 2-3 innings and allowed four runs in an April 30 loss to Detroit. "I really would like to be a starter," Noesi said. "I feel comfortable." Like Noesi, Cubs starter Edwin Jackson saw one of his better outings end up in a no-decision. Jackson entered with a 5.24 ERA but went seven innings and gave up one run while striking out a season-high nine, following up Jeff Samardzijas nine-inning, one-run outing Monday. "That game yesterday ... Samardzija threw a hell of a game," Jackson said. "I cant lie and say that didnt give me some extra motivation today to come out and follow up that performance with a strong outing." The White Sox did, too, and finished a two-game sweep of the Cubs. "Its good. I mean we need to keep, no matter who it is, keep grinding out and getting some wins. Last three games has been good," Beckham said. "Weve found a way to win in some tight games and obviously pulled a bit today but its good team-building stuff." NOTES: Cubs general manager Jed Hoyer said there have been no trade talks yet. "Teams have to have a sense that they cant fill a hole internally," he said. "People dont usually come to that conclusion in May." ... White Sox manager Robin Ventura said LHP Chris Sale (left arm) was feeling "good" one day after a 40-pitch bullpen session and that hell have another session "in the near future." ... Cubs RHP Jose Veras, on the disabled list since April 26 with a strained left oblique, threw a scoreless inning Tuesday during a rehab stint for Double-A Tennessee. ... White Sox 3B Conor Gillaspie (left hand) is eligible to come off the DL Wednesday, and Ventura said "youre hoping that hes back pretty soon." ... The Cubs will play a day-night doubleheader at Cincinnati on July 8 to make up the game from April 28, which was postponed due to rain. Benson Mayowa Jersey .Y. -- Defenceman Ryan Murphy had a goal and an assist and Drew MacIntyre made 24 saves to help the Carolina Hurricanes beat the New York Islanders 4-2 in an exhibition game Wednesday night. Anthony Hitchens Jersey .m. ET, CBSOPENING LINE — Falcons by 3 1/2RECORD VS. http://www.thecowboysfansmall.com/c-54-cowboys-la-el-collins-jersey.aspx . Brooks replaces right-hander Yordano Ventura, who left his last outing with a sore elbow. Ventura is expected to miss one start. Brooks has made one relief appearance for the Royals this season, allowing six runs in two innings in a May 3 loss to Detroit. ORLANDO, Fla. -- After Toronto locked up its first post-season berth since 2008 last week, coach Dwane Casey cautioned the Raptors to not get complacent down the stretch with teams still vying for playoff position. Hes hoping that a nearly disastrous letdown against Orlando will send a stronger message. DeMar DeRozan had 28 points, Jonas Valanciunas added 20 points and nine rebounds, and the Raptors escaped with a 98-93 victory over the Magic on Sunday night. Toronto led by as many as 21 points before having to stave off Orlandos late charge. Trailing 96-93 with 8.9 seconds to play, the Magic had the ball and an opportunity to tie the game. But coming out of a timeout they failed to inbound the ball, turning it over on a 5-second violation. DeRozan was fouled and hit a pair of free throws to save the win. "They saw the 20-point lead and like any NBA team, they let their guard down," Casey said. "Thats a development weve got to have -- to keep the intensity, keep your foot on their neck and keep it down." Kyle Lowry added 16 points. The win was the Raptors third in a row and seventh straight over the Magic. Toronto swept the season series 3-0. "We still havent done anything yet in this league. We havent played a playoff game, we havent won a playoff series, we havent done anything, so we still have a long way to go and we understand that," DeRozan said. "Its time to take the next step, finish the season off strong, and then the next step will come after that." Nik Vucevic led the Magic with 22 points and 10 rebounds. Jameer Nelson and Victor Oladipo each added 16 points. Orlando shot 55 per cent for the game, but also had 19 turnovers that led to 19 Raptors points. DeRozan had more free-throw attempts (16) than the entire Magic team. Asked about the 27-14 discrepancy in attempts between the teams, Orlando coach Jacque Vaughn brushed it off. "Im just going to say the referees were great throughout the game. Ill leave it at that," Vaughn said. After struggling offennsively for most of the second half, the Magic cut a 21-point deficit to 76-73 on a layup by Tobias Harris with 9:53 to play in the game. Tony Romo Jersey. A driving layup by Oladipo a few possessions later tied it at 78. Orlando had a chance to take the lead, but came up empty on a pair of 3-pointers. The Raptors settled down and carved out an 87-80 cushion on a pair of free throws by DeRozan with 5:16 remaining. Harris trimmed it to 93-88 with 1:21 left, but DeRozan responded on the ensuing possession with a 3 to push it back to eight. It was 96-90 when a Toronto turnover gave the Magic the ball and some life with under a minute to play. Arron Afflalo took advantage with a 3-pointer to cut it to 96-93. Lowrys layup rolled off the side of the rim on the Raptors next touch, giving the Magic their chance to tie with 8.9 seconds remaining. But thats when Maurice Harkless failed to inbound the ball within 5 seconds. "Just good defence by Toronto, denying the basketball in," Vaughn said. "The good thing is well continue to be in those situations and well get better at accomplishing it." The Raptors led 57-38 at the half, but struggled to shake free of the Magic early on. Orlando led 20-18 in the first quarter before Toronto closed the period with a 9-2 spurt. It continued at the start of the second quarter with a 17-4 run that gave the Raptors an 18-point cushion. Valanciunas led the surge with 16 first-half points. Casey said his team needs to work on its mental approach before the playoffs. "Were still learning to put games away, (and) not make games interesting at the end," he said. "Weve got to learn to put them away so we wont be fighting so hard the last minute or two." NOTES: Vucevic recorded his 36th double-double of the season. ... Raptors F Patrick Paterson missed his 13th straight game with a right ulnar collateral sprain. ... G Greivis Vasquez returned to the game in the second half after receiving five stiches to his left cheek following a collision in the first half.
